KFC goes Kosher – Fast food

without comments

kfc

This is an add for a KFC special in Israel. 30  Nis for 3 chicken wings, fries and a soft drink. Very expensive compared to the price in the US!

The menu offers chicken sandwhiches, the original fried chicken, fries, coleslaw, corn, chicken salad, and desserts.

KFC is also in the transition phase of going Kosher since March 2009. There are already 3 kosher branches but the other branches are now in the transition phases. The KFC secret recipe had to be altered in order to make it kosher. It turns out that the batter or breading on the chicken contains milk powder and therefore the KFC food laboratory had to modify the recipe and use Soy powder to re-create the same taste.

YOGO- Frozen Yogurt

without comments

YogoYogo1

Another “Korean style” yogurt shop in Israel. For some reason it sounds more impressive to market it as “American style”, but we all know that its origins are Korean. For more information on the Korean style yogurt trend, read this New York Times article .

According to this Ynet article, the yogurt comes in ” beef” flavor, sheep’s milk, goat milk and then ” beef” flavor again. I am really hoping this was a type out. In Hebrew the word Bakar means beef and para is the correct term used to describe cow’s milk. Yogo is proud to use unusual and healthy ingredients, but this is going too far don’t you think? There is even mention a beef shake! Maybe this is a sinister plot created by a religious Jewish sect to disgust Israelis so much, that they would never consider mixing meat and milk products again.

Aside from all this weird beef talk. Yogo sounds like a place that I would definetely give a go! I also must give Yogo props for making green efforts! They proudly state on the Ynet article that the cups and silverware used in their shop are all bio-degradable and made of corn and sugar cane.

I hope this green trend continues to spread throughout Israel!

Yogo is located on # 19 Rothchild street Tel Aviv 03-5175777
